We were delighted this week to hear that our long serving Secretary, Jan Ovenden's 25 years of service to the Club and by extension to the Winkleigh Community has been recognised.
Every year Winkleigh Parish Council invites local residents to nominate people who have served the Village and the community for a long service award which celebrates outstanding dedication and service.
Jan took on the role of Club Secretary back in 2001. She has served continually in that office ever since, marking a remarkable quarter of a Century of helping local people to discover the benefits of Short Mat Bowling. As well as administering the Club, she has also taken on the roles of Treasurer, Tournament Organizer, Fixtures Secretary, Caterer, Cake Baker, Teacher and Coach.
At the end of this year she will be handing over the reins to a successor but will continue to organize future competitions and fixtures.
Under Jan's stewardship Winkleigh Short Mat Bowls Club has grown to become one of the largest and most successful in the County. She is widely respected throughout the sport.
On receiving her award Jan said " ...thank you so much, it’s made my day and means so much."
